Simple Pinterest Tips to Increase your Traffic

Simple Pinterest Tips to Increase your Traffic

Pinterest is often mistaken for social media, but it’s actually a powerful search engine—one that can drive long-lasting traffic. While an Instagram post lasts about 19 hours, a Pinterest pin can circulate for nearly 4 months. For craft businesses especially, Pinterest is an ideal “top-of-funnel” tool because its users are visual and actively searching for project ideas and supplies.

Over 60% of users are using Pinterest to shop on the app. There is a growing GenZ (18-24) group of users and the overall audience is mostly women. These demographics show that craft businesses should be present on Pinterest because they closely align with most customer demographics.

Here are some quick ways to optimize your Pinterest presence:

1. Use a Business Profile

Create a dedicated Business Account with a business email. This gives you access to analytics, ads, and better insights than a personal profile. Keep pinned content focused on your business.

2. Add Keywords to Your Profile, Boards, and Pins

Pinterest is search-driven. Use keyword research—especially the Pinterest search bar—to guide the terms you include in your profile, board names, descriptions, and pin text. A potential customer using the search function will be shown individual pins AND profiles, which is why it’s important to optimize all parts of your account.

3. Claim Your Website (and Instagram/Shopify if useful)

Pinterest allows you to claim your website and link your store (from Shopify) and making these connections gives your content a boost. Be aware of any odd glitches when linking and regularly check your linked content for errors. Stitchcraft Marketing recommends connecting your online catalogue to Pinterest. We’ve seen many clients receive not only an immediate boost in traffic, but also growth in sales from Pinterest. Two of our quilt shop customers saw over $3,000 per month in sales from Pinterest after linking their Shopify stores.

4. Pin Your Top-Performing Pages

Turn strong-performing web pages and blog posts into pins, especially lead magnets or newsletter sign-up pages. Create fresh pins regularly for your highest-value links. Remember that Pinterest is top-of-funnel and should be designed to grab attention of new customers with a valuable freebie.

5. Don’t Pin the Same Link More Than Once a Week

Consistency is good—spammy repetition isn’t. Develop a consistent schedule of fresh designs and URLs. Do not share/pin the same URL (for example, your best blog post) more than once per week. Create a variety of pins such as Idea Pins, Video Pins, and static images. Pins can be scheduled so that you do not have to be on Pinterest every single day managing content.

6. Consider a Scheduler Like Tailwind

Tailwind can help you design pins, schedule posts, and use AI to write titles/descriptions. The free version is useful, and the paid tier adds more automation. You can also schedule posts natively within the Pinterest app.

7. Check Pinterest Trends

Use Pinterest Trends (and the “DIY & Crafts” category) to see what’s rising in popularity. If a relevant keyword is trending—like “chunky yarn projects”—promote matching content right away.

8. Repurpose Instagram Reels & YouTube Shorts as Pinterest Videos

Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, and Pinterest Vertical Videos all share the same aspect ratio. Repurpose your vertical video content from other platforms to take advantage of the increased visibility of video content. Just remember to optimize captions and keywords.
